Foxhound dogs were the first domesticated dogs in Great Britian and they were the first to come under scientific breeding. The other hounds were Southern Hounds and the Bloodhound. But after the 16th century the people wanted something else for the deer hunting.
They wanted a hound which was quick and could catch the wild deer. Therefore they started breeding Foxhound dogs. They are different from the Bloodhound and Southern hound in the way of their
Head: The head is broad, but long. Eyebrows are very prominent. The cheeks are shapely from the eye to the nostril, ears are set low. Their expression is very fierce.
Eyes: Bright and deeply set. They are full of determination and a steady expression. They look remarkable.Shoulders: Well cut is strong and wide and the arms are long and powerful.
Neck: Length is of importance which gives them an air of majesty.
Legs and feet: The bones are perfectly straight from the arms. The knees are flat and at level.
Coat: Short smooth and hard hair. The texture is bristles but nicely laid.
Color: Tan, Brown or black or intermixed with markings of white with perfect mixture of shape and size.
Height: Dogs height ideally should be 23 to 25 inches and the bitches from 22 to 23 inches.
